Firefighters Stop Ingleside Tip Blaze Spreading Uphill

A large fire at Kimbriki Tip in Ingleside has been extinguished after an overnight operation involving 20 firefighters, five fire trucks and heavy machinery, with crews preventing the flames from spreading further uphill.

The blaze broke out in the general waste section on the western edge of the facility on Monday, 5 October 2026. Firefighters arrived shortly after 9.30 p.m. following a Triple Zero call, finding an area of burning waste measuring approximately 100 metres by 20 metres.

Heavy Machinery Helps Crews Tackle Burning Waste

Northern Beaches Rural Fire District crews had stopped the flames from advancing further uphill by approximately 10 p.m., but the fire remained uncontrolled as firefighters worked through the affected waste piles.

Excavators were brought in to open up sections of the burning rubbish, allowing crews to reach areas that were difficult to access with conventional firefighting equipment. Water was then directed onto the exposed material through hose lines. The operation required firefighters to remain at the waste facility well into the night, with heavy plant equipment assisting efforts to bring the blaze under control.

Council And Tip Staff Take Over Fire Watch

Firefighters completed their work at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday, 6 October, after the blaze had been extinguished. No injuries were reported during the incident. Although the flames were out, the response continued beyond the firefighting operation. NBC and Kimbriki staff took over responsibility for monitoring the affected waste piles, watching for any signs of reignition.

The handover brought the facility’s own staff into the final stage of the response, following several hours of work by Northern Beaches firefighting crews. The cause of the fire remains unknown. NSW Rural Fire Service representatives indicated that several factors associated with the general waste environment could have contributed to the ignition, although no specific cause had been established.
